Gear Up 4 School 2023
We’re excited about our annual Gear Up 4 School on August 5th, 2023! Last year, we served 128 families, giving out 271 backpacks full of school supplies. We also had a clothing section, giving away gently used clothes, shoes, and hygiene kits for our community. This year’s fun-filled event will include a bounce house, face painting, and food. Our goal this year is to give out 350 backpacks to students, helping them start the new year well!
We couldn’t have made it possible without our community business partners, such as Costco and Office Depot. Also, we love our continued partnerships with community organizations such as the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, Department of Human Services, Wilsonville Library, SMART, and Tualatin Fire and Rescue.

Story Highlight
We have been partnering with a husband and wife who have been homeless for about eight years. For the past year, they have been living in a tent due to their vehicle, their source of shelter, getting stolen. Their tenacity and creativity have kept them consistently working small jobs as opportunities arise. Our staff members love talking to them about activities they do in their spare time. They try to make the best of their situation, staying positive and finding enjoyment in things they love. Being avid moviegoers, they will treat themselves to discounted movie deals when they've made some extra cash. The Heart of the City supports them by helping them plan toward financial goals, providing a place to sit for respite during the day, and extending physical resources as they become available. Their goal is to find housing and stability in service jobs in the community.
Heart of the City is here because of people and stories like this. If you have goals and need support to get you there, contact us or call (503) 582-8680.
Community Highlight
During the last six months, all social services in our area have seen the effects of the current economic climate. Your community service providers strive for best practices in meeting the community's needs. We started a monthly Wilsonville Social Service Community Meeting to collaborate on how to help you and your neighbors.
If you are a social services agency in Wilsonville and would love to participate in this meeting, contact us at info@theheartofthecity.org.
